How long does it take to register a relationship?
A relationship is registered 28 days after the date that a valid and complete application is lodged. Incomplete or invalid applications may take longer.
Can I revoke a registered domestic relationship?
Yes. To revoke a relationship that has already been registered, submit an Application to revoke a registered domestic relationship.
If you are making the revocation application by yourself, you will also need to complete a revocation statutory declaration and attach it to your application form.
A registered relationship cannot be revoked until 90 days after the date that a valid and complete revocation application has been lodged, unless otherwise directed by a court or tribunal.
How do I apply for a relationship or revocation certificate?
To apply for a standard relationship or revocation certificate, submit an Application for a domestic relationship certificate.
You can use a standard relationship certificate as proof of a domestic relationship for legal and other official purposes.
Commemorative relationship certificates
You can use the same application form to apply for a commemorative relationship certificate.
These certificates help preserve your special event in style. All commemorative certificates are printed on archival quality paper and fit a standard frame size of 280mm x 355mm (11" x 14").
A commemorative relationship certificate is not a recognised proof of relationship document.
